At A Glance: Chalet Landhaus Inn
Prioritizing Comfort, Inside and Out
In the heart of “America’s Little Switzerland,” Chalet Landhaus has long welcomed guests with its signature blend of Swiss charm and warm hospitality. With the recent conversion of its indoor pool and spa to a saltwater system, the 64-room hotel in New Glarus, Wisconsin, is now offering an even more relaxing and skin-friendly aquatic experience.
The project, completed in early 2024, replaced the property’s traditional bromine-based system with a saltwater solution—an upgrade that prioritizes guest comfort and safety while streamlining maintenance behind the scenes. “While it seems like a small change, we’ve found it makes a big difference—not just for our guests, but for our staff as well,” said Tracy DeVoe of Chalet Landhaus. “No more constant chemical adjustments. The system automatically maintains safe and comfortable water quality.” A New System with Noticeable Results
Unlike traditional pool systems where chlorine is added manually, saltwater systems work by converting dissolved salt into chlorine through electrolysis. This process results in softer-feeling water that’s gentler on the skin and eyes—a benefit guests have noticed right away.
Several guests have commented on how smooth and soothing the water feels, with many comparing it to the sensation of bathing in soft water. And while it’s a behind-the-scenes change, the saltwater system also enhances safety. With no need to manually handle chlorine, there’s less risk of accidental overexposure. Overcoming Challenges, Learning Along the Way
Implementing the saltwater conversion wasn’t without hurdles. In the spa, the added salt initially caused minor reactions with the concrete, prompting Chalet Landhaus to partner with a local paint company to develop a more durable surface solution.
“There was definitely a learning curve,” said DeVoe. “Saltwater systems are different than traditional pool chemistry, and we’ve been learning alongside our vendor partner to understand the balance and care required. But the results have been worth it.” Plan Your Stay
Whether you’re relaxing after a day of hiking, biking, or exploring the Swiss-themed village of New Glarus, the newly converted saltwater pool and spa at Chalet Landhaus offer the perfect way to unwind. Guests will appreciate the gentle feel of the water—and the peaceful setting that surrounds it.
