Empowering Future Leaders: Milwaukee Chapter Awards Record $8,000 in Scholarships for 2024

The Greater Milwaukee Hotel & Lodging Association (GMHLA) is excited to announce the 2024 GMHLA Scholarship Awards, the largest amount ever awarded by the chapter, totaling $8,000. This significant increase highlights GMHLA's commitment to supporting the educational goals of students in the hospitality industry.

The decision to allocate this unprecedented amount reflects our belief in the importance of education and professional development within the hospitality sector. By investing in future leaders, GMHLA’s Board of Directors aims to:

• Encourage Growth: Scholarships provide financial assistance, allowing students to focus on their studies without the burden of excessive debt. 
  
  
• Support Workforce Development: By nurturing talent in our community, we help ensure a skilled workforce that can meet the evolving needs of the hospitality industry. 
  
  
• Promote Diversity: Increasing scholarship funds enables us to support a wider range of applicants, fostering diversity and inclusion within our industry.

2024 GMHLA Scholarship Program

The GMHLA Scholarship Program is coordinated by the GMHLA Board of Directors, which reviews and sets the award categories and amounts annually. In 2024, two distinct categories were available for scholarship applicants:

1. Hospitality Student Scholarships: This category is for students enrolled at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) or Waukesha County Technical College (WCTC) in hotel management or related programs. 
   
   
2. Student Employee Scholarships: For employees of GMHLA member hotels who are enrolled in any higher educational institution.

 
The GMHLA Scholarship Committee, chaired by Jon Jossart and including members Adam Dziadosz, Carmen Smalley, and Larry Robe, carefully reviewed applications and selected this year’s winners. 

On December 9, 2024, the GMHLA Board of Directors voted unanimously to approve the awards for 2024. Two Hospitality Student Scholarship awards of $1,500 each were given to students enrolled at Milwaukee Area Technical College. One Student Employee Scholarship award of $2,000 and three $1,000 awards each were given to students working at hotels in membership with the chapter and while enrolled in different educational institutions in the Milwaukee area.
GMHLA staff and members from the Scholarship Committee will be visiting the award winners at their places of employment for in-person check presentations, celebrating their achievements with the teams at the hotel properties.These GMHLA Scholarships not only provide financial support but also represent the chapter’s dedication to empowering students and enhancing the future of hospitality in Greater Milwaukee. 
 
With this increased scholarship funding, the Greater Milwaukee Hotel & Lodging Association remains committed to fostering talent and ensuring a bright future for the hospitality industry in the hospitality community. Congratulations to all this year's scholarship recipients!
