Lodging Innsights Milwaukee: A Grand Slam Event at American Family Field

On September 30, WHLA members from across the state gathered at American Family Field in Milwaukee for the sixth installment of the award-winning Lodging Innsights event series. The day was packed with networking opportunities, insightful educational sessions, and a celebration of the industry's finest.

Team Effort: Advocating for Tourism

The first educational session, titled "Team Effort: Advocating for Tourism," brought together a panel of local leaders to discuss the future of Milwaukee's tourism industry. The panel, moderated by Larry Robe, General Manager at the Knickerbocker on the Lake, included:

• Milwaukee County Executive David Crowley
• Wisconsin Center District CEO Marty Brooks
• VISIT Milwaukee President & CEO Peggy Williams-Smith
• Restaurateur and developer Omar Shakh

 
The panel discussed exciting developments such as the expansion of the conference center, efforts to attract major events like the RNC, and strategies to keep the Brewers in Milwaukee.

From the Field to the Community

​During the second session, "From the Field to the Community: A Conversation with Brewer's President Rick Schlesinger," attendees enjoyed an engaging interview conducted by WHLA Board Chair Jay Schumerth, VP of Operations for First Hospitality. This discussion focused on the Brewers' significant community initiatives, expected changes to the ballpark after the recent agreement for public funding, and the ballclub’s role in Milwaukee's tourism landscape.

Event Highlights

The day began with the WHLA Awards Lunch, recognizing outstanding achievements in Wisconsin's hospitality industry. Attendees then had the unique opportunity to tour American Family Field before the start of the Innsights educational sessions.

Following the enlightening discussions, guests enjoyed a networking reception overlooking the stunning American Family Field, providing the perfect backdrop for industry professionals to connect and reflect on the day's insights.
