Originally from Madison, Mia had been studying public relations at the University of Wisconsin–Oshkosh and plans to continue her education at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee.
Her interest in public relations grew from her love of social media and the way a strong image or graphic can tell a story. “I believe I’m a creative person, and I love putting that creativity into storytelling through social media posts and graphics,” Mia shared. That creativity has already taken her beyond the classroom. During a previous experience with a travel-management company in Puerto Rico, Mia gained valuable exposure to the events and hospitality industries while creating social media content. The opportunity helped prepare her for a role at WHLA, where communications, events and hospitality regularly intersect. Rooted in Connection
Mia was initially drawn to the WHLA internship because of its focus on graphic design and communications. Throughout the fall, she hopes to strengthen her design skills, become a more confident communicator and learn how WHLA supports lodging properties and professionals across the state.
Although she had only been with the association for a few days at the time of our interview, Mia was already surprised by the scope of WHLA’s work, particularly its advocacy and educational efforts. “The advocacy part really surprised me, along with all the education that goes into helping others,” she said. “I’m excited to learn more about it and experience that work with the team.” Mia describes herself as a people person who cares deeply about helping others. That perspective will serve her well as she begins learning the stories behind WHLA’s members, properties and communities. Looking Ahead to the Conference
One experience Mia is especially excited about is the 2026 Wisconsin Lodging Conference & Trade Show, taking place November 1–3 at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Wisconsin Dells.
“I’m really excited to experience the conference, show what I have to offer, and continue to learn and grow,” she said. In addition to helping promote the event, Mia will have the opportunity to capture content, meet WHLA members and experience firsthand the connections that make the conference such an important gathering for Wisconsin’s lodging community. Outside of work and school, Mia enjoys spending time with her two dogs, family and friends and she is always willing to drive a little farther to try a new coffee shop. She also loves Lake Tomahawk and Milwaukee, hopes to visit Tokyo someday and considers fall her favorite season, making her arrival at WHLA especially well-timed. Please join us in welcoming Mia to the WHLA team! If you see her at an upcoming event, be sure to introduce yourself and say hello. Members will have an especially great opportunity to meet Mia at this year’s Wisconsin Lodging Conference & Trade Show. Along with meeting the newest member of our team, attendees can look forward to valuable education, new industry connections, an energetic Trade Show and plenty of fun throughout the three-day event. If you haven’t registered yet, don’t forget to reserve your place soon. We look forward to seeing you and introducing you to Mia in the Dells!
