Raising the Bar: Blake Scheer of Kimpton Journeyman Hotel Honored with WHLA’s 2025 Spirit of Hospitality Award

​The Wisconsin Hotel & Lodging Association (WHLA) proudly recognizes Blake Scheer, Lead Bartender at the Kimpton Journeyman Hotel in Milwaukee, as one of the 2025 Spirit of Hospitality Award recipients.

Blake is celebrated for his creativity, leadership, and dedication to delivering outstanding guest experiences. A pillar of The Outsider Bar for over four years, he leads by example — crafting innovative seasonal beverage menus, mentoring staff, and fostering a fun and collaborative team environment. His passion for hospitality shines through in every interaction, whether he’s creating a memorable cocktail or ensuring a seamless guest experience.

“Blake’s enthusiasm is infectious,” said Amy Boston, who presented the award on behalf of WHLA during the 2025 WHLA Awards Luncheon on September 11 at Hotel Retlaw in Fond du Lac. “He embraces the Kimpton culture, takes ownership of bar operations, offers suggestions for improvement, and inspires his teammates to be creative and engaged.”

Blake’s commitment extends beyond the bar. He represents the Journeyman in local competitions — including leading his team to victory at the 2024 MKE Tiki Take-Down — and is known for his maturity and ability to ensure both guests and colleagues feel supported and valued. His hotel’s executive committee often jokes that they wish they had “100 more Blakes” on their team.

The Spirit of Hospitality Awards are part of WHLA’s Stars of the Industry program, which celebrates the people and properties that define excellence in Wisconsin’s lodging community.
