WHLA Celebrates Excellence at 2024 Awards Dinner

​The Wisconsin Hotel & Lodging Association (WHLA) hosted its annual Awards Dinner and Live Auction at the Kalahari Resorts in Wisconsin Dells. The event recognized outstanding contributions to the hospitality industry and raised funds for key initiatives.

Wisconsin Lodging Directory Cover Contest

​Sheryl Tharman from the Publications Committee unveiled the 2025 Wisconsin Lodging Directory Cover Contest winner. Heidel House Resort on Green Lake claimed the coveted spot, with representatives from the property expressing their gratitude to the audience.

Educator of the Year

​Dr. LaVoy from Madison College presented Jay Jones from the University of Wisconsin-Stout with the 2024 Educator of the Year award. Many of Jones' students were present to witness this significant recognition, underscoring his impact on aspiring hospitality professionals.

Associate of the Year

​Brian Lee from Revelation PR, Advertising & Social Media announced Cindy Lapidakis from Royal Basket Trucks as the 2024 Associate of the Year. Lapidakis accepted the award and shared her thoughts with the attendees, highlighting the importance of industry partnerships.

Corporate Champion Award

​Kristina McConnell from Aimbridge Hospitality presented Amy Supple, The Edgewater, with the Corporate Champion Award. Supple addressed the group, expressed her gratitude, and emphasized the importance of Wisconsin tourism promotion. 

Innkeeper of the Year

​During the final award ceremony of the night, 2023 Innkeeper of the Year, Sara Abbott, presented the 2024 Innkeeper of the Year award to Larry Robe, the General Manager of the Knickerbocker on the Lake Hotel. Robe's powerful speech about the industry resonated deeply with the audience, resulting in a standing ovation.

Live Auction

​The evening concluded with an exciting live auction that raised funds for the WHLA Political Action Committee (PAC), Conduit, and Scholarship funds. This fundraising effort underscored the association's commitment to advocacy, education, and industry development.

The 2024 WHLA Awards Dinner not only celebrated individual and organizational achievements but also reinforced the strength and unity of Wisconsin's hospitality community. The event highlighted the industry's resilience and commitment to growth through recognition of excellence and support for future initiatives.
