Volunteering with WHLA is a great way to connect with other lodging industry professionals from around the state while helping our organization into the future. Volunteer roles include serving on committees along with some “one time” options. We have restructured our committee meeting format to mainly be online calls to people from all over the state to participate.
Qualifications
Committee members must be a member of WHLA in good standing. Committee members have the overall responsibility of supporting the WHLA Board of Directors and carrying out the committee charges as set forth by the Board.
Year-Round Volunteer OpportunitiesLegislative Tourism Committee
This committee monitors new and pending legislation in collaboration with WHLA staff and the contract lobbyist. Duties include reviewing legislation and providing position recommendations on relevant bills and issues to the Board of Directors. Additional duties may include advocacy assistance and the planning of WHLA Action Day. Commitment: 5-10 hours per year, plus Action Day.
Membership Committee
The purpose of this committee is to ensure an active and engaged membership base. Duties of this committee include membership recruitment initiatives, development of board level recruitment and retention plans, and new member outreach. Commitment: 6-12 hours per year.
Education/Conference Committee
Committee members plan the annual Wisconsin Lodging Conference and Trade Show. This committee also monitors WHLA’s educational offerings and makes recommendations on scholarships, partnerships with hospitality programs, student support, and more. Commitment: 6-12 hours per year.
Publications Committee
The purpose of this committee is to identify goals and strategies for the Wisconsin Lodging Directory, InnTouch Magazine, Insider and Capitol Insider publications. Members help identify and curate content for publications and recommend changes and improvements to publication structure as needed. Commitment: 4-8 hours per year.
WI Women in Lodging (WWIL) Steering Committee
This committee oversees events, content, and any other benefits for WWIL’s members. Assists in planning WWIL events and recruiting attendees. Commitment: TBD, likely 6-10 hours per year.
Workplace Culture Task Force
The purpose of this task force is to share ideas for building workplace culture in WHLA publications and at regional events. Commitment: 4-8 hours per year.
One-time / Other Volunteer OpportunitiesWelcome Wagon
As a welcome wagon volunteer, we will ask you to contact a new member or two shortly after they join to introduce yourself and check in with them. We'll make sure you have all of the necessary info and talking points for a great conversation!
Event Volunteer
We'll contact you when we have regional or statewide events that we may need assistance with (helping at the registration table, etc.)
Hosting a Lodging Industry Update
This is for people who would like to host an event where we can talk about the work WHLA is doing and the health of the lodging industry in Wisconsin. Volunteers will be asked to coordinate space and invite local hoteliers to the event.
