The award was presented by WHLA Awards Committee Chair Cory Latourell, Hotel Marshfield during a dinner ceremony at the 2023 Wisconsin Lodging Conference on November 6 at Holiday Inn Stevens Point Convention Center.
Dr. Lynea LaVoy is the Department Chair, and the Faculty and Program Director for Madison College's Hospitality Management. During her time with the program, she has shown exceptional dedication to the craft of teaching. Her students consistently praise her innovative and engaging teaching methods, as well as her unwavering support in nurturing their academic growth. Dr. LaVoy’s ability to connect with students and leverage her industry contacts creates an impactful student experience. A servant leader first and foremost, she is always thinking about her students and how she can set them up for success. “WHLA is honored to be recognizing Dr. LaVoy with the 2023 Educator or the Year Award,” said Bill Elliott, WHLA President & CEO. He continued, “Dr. LaVoy’s passion shines bright, and you can see it in the culture she creates with her students and their enthusiasm in joining Wisconsin’s hospitality industry.” In recognition of her outstanding achievements in education and her impact on the future leaders of our industry, Dr. LaVoy received the 2023 WHLA Educator of the Year Award.
