On February 13 WHLA members from across the state will gather in Madison for 2024 Action Day.  This event provides Wisconsin hoteliers and industry supports with an opportunity to not only hear an inside view on the latest proposals and plans impacting our industry at the state level of government, but also to meet afterward with your state elected officials or their key staff so that they can better understand the concerns of Wisconsin’s lodging properties.

2024 Action Day Speakers

Sharon Sykes

​Sharon Sykes as director of state and local government affairs for the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA), covering the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest regions. She works closely with AHLA state lodging association members to further elevate the industry’s advocacy effectiveness.  Prior to joining AHLA, Sharon was the Grassroots Manager for the National Federation of Independent Business after managing advocacy campaigns throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. She has orchestrated public policy issue campaigns in multiple states with an emphasis on labor and taxes.

Representative Tyler August

Representative Tyler August is the majority leader of the Wisconsin State Assembly since 2023 and previously served as the chamber's speaker pro tempore. A Republican, he was first elected to the Assembly in 2010, representing eastern Walworth County. In the current term, August serves on the Committees on Assembly Organization, Government Accountability and Oversight, Insurance, Rules, and Law Revision. He is co-chair of the Joint Survey Committee on Tax Exemptions, and also serves on the Joint Legislative Council.
