NCG announces their ambitious plan to bring a hub of significant activity to a currently vacant block on Wisconsin Avenue in Downtown Madison.
Madison, Wisconsin – June 15, 2023 | Today, NCG Hospitality (“NCG”) announced the newest of its development projects in the heart of downtown Madison. Occupying a currently vacant block on Wisconsin Avenue just steps from Capitol Square, the former Madison College building will soon be reimagined into 126 loft style residential units and unique commercial spaces. In addition, the remaining portion of the block will be developed into a dual brand Autograph Collection Hotel and Residence Inn Hotel by Marriott.
NCG Hospitality recently celebrated its 42-year anniversary as a family-owned, Wisconsin company. NCG will pay tribute to its rich history in the area by honoring Madison’s historic beginnings. This significant project will prioritize the preservation and adaptive reuse of the historic Madison College building and add 2 new signature hotels to the fabric of downtown Madison. Designed by architectural firm, Cooper Carry, the redevelopment reflects the vibrant personality of the City of Madison.

With an anticipated opening in 2026, the hotel space will include many unique features such as:
  • A destination restaurant celebrating the wonderful and diverse food culture in Madison.
  • 350 guestrooms one block off the Capitol square.
  • The only extended stay hotel in downtown Madison.
  • The first Autograph Collection by Marriott hotel in south-central Wisconsin.
  • A mid-block courtyard that will provide an outdoor gathering space for hotel guests and local residents to celebrate and socialize.
  • Over 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space, most notably a 5,000-plus square foot winter garden; a glass enclosed indoor/outdoor space that will connect the hotel lobby with the mid-block courtyard.  The glass enclosed winter garden will provide downtown Madison with a year-round event venue that celebrates the outdoors.
  • A rooftop lounge and restaurant with sweeping views of Lake Mendota, the Capitol, and downtown Madison.

Of this endeavor, NCG’s Chief Development Officer, Andy Inman said, “This is a once in a generation opportunity to contribute back to Madison in a significant way. This is without question the most exciting project in the history of NCG Hospitality and will be an incredible addition to the City of Madison. Our goal is to offer Madison’s visitors and locals with a one-of-a-kind vibrant downtown hub with stunning and unique spaces not currently available in the city.”

Last month, NCG opened its first Autograph hotel in Milwaukee called The Trade. In addition, NCG is constructing a new Marriott Moxy hotel on East Washington Avenue and is redeveloping the former Rubin’s furniture building into a boutique hotel called The Saddlery. This month, NCG broke ground on a new Home2 Suites and Tru hotel in Flagstaff, Arizona.
